University faculty, staff, and students helped raise almost $10,000 for breast cancer research during “A Walk for the Cure,” held on October 4 on campus.

A record 586 walkers from all areas on campus participated, including student athletes, members of the various clubs and organizations, and children enrolled in the Child Development Center. Students who belong to the Filipino American Cultural Entity (FACE) had the most walkers for the second year in a row.

Among the more than 200 student athletes who participated, the Pioneer Volleyball Team raised the most money for the second year in a row.  Professor Amy Rady, exercise and movement sciences, and her students raised more than $2,000, the highest overall amount.

Proceeds benefit two organizations, the Susan B. Komen Foundation, and the Breast Cancer Foundation. The event was sponsored by the University’s Rec Center, the Counseling, Health and Wellness Center, and the Women’s Center.
