William Paterson Hosts Second Competition for Funniest College Student in New Jersey

Students from across the Garden State will compete for laughs during William Paterson University’s Second Annual Comedy Festival to be held from November 28 to December 8.

A highlight of the festival will be the competition for the Funniest College in New Jersey. and the Funniest College Student in New Jersey culminating on Saturday, December 1.

The New Music Series will present a concert of twentieth century music on Monday, November 26 at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, December 2, the Connecticut Children's Theatre will present The Snow Story at 2:00 p.m. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band will present a Christmas spectacular of New Orleans jazz on December 8 at 8:00 p.m. The University Choir and chamber singers will present portions of Handel's Messiah in a concert on December 11 at 8:00 p.m. All events take place in Shea Center for Performing Arts.

University to Hold 27th Annual Bilingual Conference on Dec. 7

A comprehensive exploration of multiliteracies is the focus of a conference for language advocates on Friday, December 7 at William Paterson.

President of Wagner College to Speak on Civic Engagement

Richard Guarasci, the president of Wagner College in Staten Island, will discuss his institution’s focus on learning communities and experiential learning in an address, “On Becoming the Good College…Civic Engagement and General Education,” on Tuesday, November 20 at 12:30 p.m. in Ballroom C in University Commons.  A lunch reception will precede the event in Ballroom B beginning at noon.

 



Art Department Achieves Prestigious Accreditation

The Department of Art at William Paterson University has achieved accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) for the undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered by its College of the Arts and Communication.  NASAD is the national accrediting agency for art and design and art and design-related disciplines.

University to Offer Online Winter Session Courses

William Paterson will offer accelerated Online Winter Session courses during the University’s winter break from December 26, 2007 to January 16, 2008.

William Paterson University Awarded Federal Grant to Create A Statewide Digital Video Repository

William Paterson, in collaboration with Rutgers University and NJEDge.net, has been awarded nearly $1 million by the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to create a statewide digital video archive comprised of a wide range of educational materials that will provide streaming video to New Jersey colleges and universities, K-12 schools, libraries and cultural heritage institutions.

November Distinguished Lecturer Program Postponed to March 14

Due to a last-minute scheduling conflict, the November 30, 2007 Distinguished Lecturer Series program “The Future of the American City” has been postponed to March 14.

Tickets already purchased for this program with the November 30, 2007 date will be good for the March 14, 2008 date.

William Paterson University to Host Tenth Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Senior Citizens on November 17

More than 150 senior citizens from northern New Jersey are expected to attend William Paterson University's Tenth Annual Senior Citizens Thanksgiving Dinner on Saturday, November 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at The Brownstone in Paterson.

Following three seasons as the William Paterson University football head coach, Mike Miello has announced his decision to step down from his position at the University.

Football Defeats Rowan 21-20 to Finish with Best NJAC Record Since 1994

The William Paterson football team (5-5, 3-4 NJAC) earned a 21-20 victory in the season finale Nov. 10 against Rowan (4-6, 2-5 NJAC), finishing the season 3-4 in conference play for the Pioneers’ best NJAC finish since 1994.

Men’s Basketball Opens Season at Vassar Tipoff Tournament

The William Paterson men’s basketball team will begin the 2007-08 season at the Vassar Tipoff Tournament Nov. 16-17.  The Pioneers will open against Emerson Friday, Nov. 16, at 8:00 p.m.  The consolation and championship games will be contested Saturday, Nov. 17, at 1:00/3:00 p.m.  The Pioneers return three starters and nine letterwinners from a 2006-07 team that posted a 15-10 overall record and a 6-7 mark in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play.

Women’s Basketball Begins Season at DeSales Tournament

The William Paterson women’s basketball team will begin the 2007-08 season at the DeSales Tipoff Tournament Nov. 17-18.  The Pioneers will open against Springfield Saturday, Nov. 17, at 8:00 p.m.  The consolation and championship games will be contested Sunday, Nov. 18, at 1:00/3:00 p.m.  The Pioneers return three starters and eight letterwinners from a 2006-07 team that posted a 23-6 overall record and an 11-2 mark in NJAC play, reaching the championship game of the NJAC Tournament and the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Swimming and Diving Teams Off to Solid Season Start

The William Paterson men’s (4-1) and women’s (6-1) swimming and diving teams are off to solid starts to this season, most recently defeating Lehman on Nov. 15.
