Campus Life Holds Successful Drive for Covenant House

The Office of Campus Life collected nearly $500 and more than 3,000 toiletry items for Covenant House during a campus-wide campaign during November to raise awareness about the issue of homelessness.  Covenant House is the largest privately funded agency in the Americas providing shelter and other services to homeless, runaway, and throwaway youth.

Sondheim Symposium at William Paterson University Celebrates Musical Theatre Icon
February 14 and 15

A symposium celebrating the 50-year musical theatre career of American composer Stephen Sondheim will be held at William Paterson University February 14-15, 2008. The two-day symposium, which will feature lectures, panels, paper presentations, master classes and performances, is held in conjunction with Sondheim's appearance as part of the University's Distinguished Lecturer Series on February 15 at 7 p.m. in Shea Center.

Tickets are available for both the symposium and for Sondheim's Distinguished Lecturer Series program. DLS tickets are available at a discounted price for members of the William Paterson community.

Professors from Dutch University Visit William Paterson Campus

More than twenty professors and administrators from the School of Education at Windesheim University in the Netherlands visited the University and some of its professional development schools last month for an exchange of ideas and a discussion of the challenges of teaching.

University Hosts 10th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner

More than 195 people attended the University’s 10th annual Thanksgiving dinner held on November 17 at The Brownstone in Paterson. Many attendees were from the University’s Silver Pioneers Club, but other guests were from various agencies in local communities. Entertainment was provided by Abracadabra Deejay and the Kirschner Dance Studio. Volunteers from all parts of campus helped to serve the meal.Valerie Marino, Center for Continuing and Professional Education, served as chairperson of the event.



William Paterson Signs Memorandum of Cooperation with Zhejiang University of Technology in China

William Paterson University has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Zhejiang University of Technology in Hangzhou, China, which emphasizes the development of academic and cultural interchanges in the areas of education, research, and other activities.

Music Students Donate Funds for New Orleans Musicians Village


William Paterson music students presented a check for $3,000 in support of musicians who were victims of Hurricane Katrina to the New Orleans-based Preservation Hall Jazz Band during their performance on campus on December 8.

Quilt Honors Victims of AIDS

Portions of the AIDS Quilt were on display recently in the John Victor Machuga Student Center to honor victims of the disease. The event was part of the University’s observance of World AIDS Day 2007 which culminated with a candlelight ceremony to those lost to AIDS, and those living with HIV.

University Ice Hockey Team Achieves Winning Season

The University’s Ice Hockey Team, a club sport, is celebrating a successful season with twenty-two wins, two losses and one tie as they end the semester and go on a break until resuming play in January.

So far, they have achieved a second place ranking in the American Collegiate Hockey Association for the Southeast Region, and have won two tour trophies: the Garden State Inaugural Cup, playing against Montclair State University, Rutgers University, and Rowan University; and the Eight-Mile Cup, a contest against longtime rival Montclair State.

Swimming and Diving Teams Enjoy Break from Competition

The William Paterson men’s (6-2) and women’s (9-1) swimming and diving teams will enjoy a break from competition, returning to the pool Jan. 23 against Queens.  Most recently, the Pioneers split a pair of dual meets at Division II Adelphi Dec. 8.  Many of the swimmers will continue their training with an 11-day trip to Curacao, Netherlands Antilles, from Dec. 27 to Jan. 6.

Women's Basketball Upsets No. 7/5 Kean, Awaits Manhattanville

The William Paterson women's basketball team improved to 6-2 overall with an 82-79 victory at No. 7/5 Kean Dec. 8, and has won its last five contests.  The Pioneers will next play Wednesday, Dec. 19, against Manhattanville at 7:00 p.m.

Men's Basketball Riding Seven-Game Win Streak, to Host Lehman Dec. 21

The William Paterson men's basketball team (7-1) has won its last seven games, most recently defeating FDU-Florham 77-51 Dec. 12.  The Pioneers
will enjoy a break for final exams, returning to action Dec. 21 with a home game against Lehman at
7:00 p.m.
