ROLV YTTREHUS IS GUEST AT FIFTH ANNUAL "COMPOSER IN RESIDENCE DAY" AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY

Rolv Yttrehus, internationally renowned composer, will be the guest for the fifth annual "Composer In Residence Day" as part of a Midday Artist Series concert at William Paterson University in Wayne on Thursday, March 28.

Yttrehus will participate in a day of events devoted to his music, beginning with an open rehearsal from 10 a.m. to noon. The concert, which will feature the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble directed by Raymond DesRoches, will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Shea Center. Admission is $3. Highlights of the concert program include "Angstwagen for Soprano and Percussion" with soprano soloist Barbara Kokolus, a William Paterson alumna, and "Sonata for Percussion and Piano" with faculty member Anton Vishio, pianist.

Yttrehus, who regards Schoenberg and Sessions as his principal influences, was born 1926 in Duluth, Minnesota. He holds degrees from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, the University of Michigan, and in 1962, received a diploma from the Accademia Di Santa Cecilia in Rome. He studied harmony with Nadia Boulanger, and composition with Ross Lee Finney, Roger Sessions, Aaron Copland, and Goffredo Petrassi. He is professor of music emeritus, Rutgers University.

Raymond Des Roches, a noted percussionist and professor of music at William Paterson, formed the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble and the New Jersey New Music Ensemble in 1968 and 1975, respectively. The two groups have won critical acclaim for their performances of 20th century music.
