A ceremony celebrating the 30th anniversary of Title IX, an alumnae art exhibition, and a conference designed to offer lessons in communication and leadership for female students, are among the events to be held at William Paterson University in Wayne this spring in observance of March as Women’s History Month.

During the opening event on Tuesday, March 5, a panel of University women will discuss Title IX, the federal law mandating equality for women in school sports. This event will be held from 12:15 to 2 p.m., in the Machuga Student Center on campus.

An art exhibition featuring the works of six distinguished alumnae will be on view during the month of March in the Machuga Student Gallery Lounge. The art will consist of paintings, photography, and portraits done by contemporary women artists.

"Parents at William Paterson," a discussion geared toward students, faculty, and staff on the challenges of combining school, work, and family, will be held in the Student Center on Wednesday, March 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Other scheduled events include, "Sisterspirit," a lecture featuring Brenda and Wanda Henson, nationally recognized human rights activists and educators, on Friday, March 8 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Student Center. On Saturday, March 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Fifth Annual Sister to Sister Conference will be held in the Student Center Ballroom, featuring keynote speaker and award-winning poet Sonia Sanchez.

"International Women’s Day" will be celebrated on Monday, March 11 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Student Center. Participants can join in an informal discussion based on the topic "What is the most pressing issue for women in today’s society?"

Four women journalists will present a panel discussion on Wednesday, March 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Student Center. "Women in Print Media" will feature University professors Tina Lesher and Liz Birge, along with Sarah Rasmusson, an adjunct professor in the Women’s Studies Department at William Paterson, and Jennifer Pozner, a freelance writer whose work has appeared various publications, including "Ms.," "Newsday," and the "Chicago Tribune." They will offer advice on journalism careers and share their individual experiences.

An annual celebration of the achievements of University women students, faculty, and staff will be held in the Machuga Student Center Ballroom on Thursday, March 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The "Eighth Annual Women of WPUNJ Celebration" will feature a panel discussion, entertainment, crafts, food, and more.
