WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY STAGES SONDHEIM CLASSIC, “INTO THE WOODS,” APRIL 7 TO 12

The William Paterson University Performing Arts Theatre Series presents “Into the Woods,” a bewitching modern classic musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, at Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus from April 7 to 12.

“Into the Woods,” Sondheim’s most popular musical, opened on Broadway in 1987. Since then, productions have appeared across the world enchanting audiences with its twisted telling of notable fairy tales. “Into the Woods” uses these children’s tales to remind adults, in a most entertaining way, to mind the future and the past.

The educational/community theatre production is comprised of William Paterson University students and alumni and community performers. Students are: Andrea Corbo of Montville as “Florinda;” Catherine Cugliari of West Paterson as “Jack’s Mother;” Christina DeRosa of Hawthorne as “Snow White;” Ali Gleason of Forked River as “Little Red Riding Hood;” Hilary Goldman of Princeton as “Lucinda;” Tiffany Groglio of Plantsville as “Sleeping Beauty;” Laura Lazzati of Oceanport as “Step Mother;” Joe Palinsky of Colonia as “Mysterious Man;” Giulio Picolli of Rutherford as “Cinderella’s Prince;” Andi Smith of Toms River as “Cinderella’s Mother;” James Suit of Woolwich Township as “Cinderella’s Father;” and Erin Zapcic of Brick as “the Witch.”

William Paterson alumni are: Amy Edelstein of Closter as “Cinderella;” Doug Fallone of Paramus as “the Narrator;” James J. Miles III of North Arlington as “the Steward;” Tracey Turner of North Arlington as “Rapunzel;” and Michael Wnoroski of Clifton as “the Baker.”

Community actors are: Eddie Cooke of Boonton as “Jack;” Annie Howe of Bloomfield as “the Baker’s Wife;” and John Rathgeb of Verona as “the Wolf.” Edward Matthews, director of the University’s performing arts unit, will direct. William Paterson adjunct faculty and staff members Jeremy Doucette and Shari Selke serve as scenic designer and production stage manager, respectively.

Curtain times for “Into the Woods” are 8 p.m. on April 7, 8, 9, and 11; 3 p.m. on April 10; and 12:30 p.m. on April 12. Tickets are $15, $12 for senior citizens. For directions or to purchase tickets, please call the Shea Center Box Office at 973-720-2371.
