WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY HOSTS A WIDE RANGE OF SUMMER CAMPS WITH TOPICS RANGING FROM HARRY POTTER TO COMPUTERS AND ROBOTS FOR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS

Computers, comic books, digital photography, roller coasters, and robots are just a few of the subjects explored at summer camps and workshops at William Paterson University in Wayne during July and August for students in elementary and middle school. “Robots, Rollercoasters, Comics, and Creativity,” a series of weeklong summer classes, will allow students to participate in fun-filled, hands-on learning activities with faculty and other expert instructors. Courses are available for children ages 6 to 13 but age recommendations vary by workshop. All summer courses are held on the University’s campus in Wayne. Register early on the Web and receive a discount on all courses.

July 11-15

Basic Computer Skills and Microsoft Office Camp

Designed for middle school students who want a better understanding of the software programs Windows and Office. Other topics covered include the Microsoft software programs Power Point and Publisher.
Time: 9 a.m. to noon. Fee: $399.

Digital Photography Camp
Designed for students who want to experiment with photography and digital imaging. Students will learn how to compose photos and edit them using Adobe Photoshop.
Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fee: $399.

Hovercraft, Egg Drop and Thingamajig Workshop
Design, build and keep a gravity vehicle, a super car powered by more than one source of energy.
Time: 9 a.m. to noon. Fee: $180.

Jungle Robotics
Build and take home a jungle robot that will walk hand-over–hand on a string above the ground.
Time: 9 a.m. to noon. Fee: $180.

The Talking Clock
Build an accurate talking clock that will let you tell time by the hour and minute.
Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fee: $180.

“Maglev Cars”— Levitation for Future Transportation
Build a futuristic “Maglev” car to race and take home.
Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fee: $180.

July 18-22

Come on a fossil hunt and discover an actual dinosaur bone and a five-million-year-old trilobite.
Time: 9 a.m. to noon. Fee: $180.

Crime Lab Capers
The case of the missing millionaire needs to be solved. Can you help?
Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fee: $180.

Hyper Peppy Robots: “The Rocket Robots”
Build and take home your own rocket robot that works by the clap of your hands or the sound of your voice.
Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fee: $180.

Harry Potter — Mystery Science Workshop
Join the escapades of Harry and his friends: play quidditch for muggles, make invisible ink, create an edible wand and more.
Time: 9 a.m. to noon. Fee: $180.

July 25-29

Roller Coasters
Build a working roller coaster and learn simple engineering ideas.
Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fee is $180.

The “Weasel”
Learn about gears, sensors, electronic components and circuit boards by building a robotic “weasel.”
Time: 9 a.m. to noon. Fee: $180.

August 1-5

MX-Speedboat-Car-Revolving Boat
Build a car to demonstrate force, a revolving robot and even a speedboat.
Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fee is $200.

Electronic Lab Workshop
Build 30 different projects and experiments with your own reusable electronic kit.
Time: 9 a.m. to noon. Fee: $200.

Pro-Soccer Robotics
Learn how to use the pro-soccer robot which can catch and shoot a ball.
Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fee: $200.

Advanced Robotics
Build and take home your own high-tech robot.
Time: 9 a.m. to noon. Fee: $200.

August 8 - 12

Electronic Lab Workshop
Build 30 different projects and experiments with your own reusable electronic kit.
Time: 9 a.m. to noon. Fee: $200.

Advanced Robotics

“Comet” Robotics Workshop
“Comet“ is a two-wheeled mechanical drawing marvel that can be controlled in its sequential mode. Use it to play golf, obstacle course and maze games.
Time: 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fee: $200.

“Sumo” Robot
Build and take home your own “Sumo” robot that can detect an opponent, and have a bona fide Sumo wrestling match.
Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fee: $200.
