William Paterson University to Observe African Heritage Month in February

A range of lectures and other events are part of William Paterson University's observance of African Heritage Month to be held in February. This year's theme is "Connecting...Past, Present and Future." Admission is free, unless otherwise noted. Events listed include:

February 2      
Opening Lecture
Joy DeGruy Leary,
Assistant professor, Portland State University
“Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome”
12:30 to 2 p.m.
Raubinger 101

Dr. Leary will discuss her research that focuses on the theory that a stress-related illness can occur as the result of the slave experience and oppression which followed, and can be passed down through generations in the African American community.
