WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY’S CENTER FOR CLOSELY HELD BUSINESS TO HOLD BREAKFAST ROUNDTABLE ON SUCCESSION PLANNING

—“Survive and Thrive:  Succession Planning” to be held September 26 in 1600 Valley Road Building

The business and legal aspects of succession planning for closely held and family businesses will be the topic of a breakfast roundtable on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at William Paterson University in Wayne.  The event is conducted by the University’s Center for Closely Held Business, which is dedicated to the success of family and closely held firms in the northern New Jersey region.

The event, in the University’s building at 1600 Valley Road, will run from 7:30 to 10 a.m., and includes a continental breakfast.  The cost is $35 per person.  The program is geared to CEOs, partners, and family business members.

Titled “Survive and Thrive:  Succession Planning,” the program will feature Ira Herman, partner and national director of tax practice, J.H. Cohn, and Bruce Ackerman, an attorney with Shapiro & Croland, who will provide suggestions on the business and legal aspects of succession planning. An open discussion will follow, featuring actual succession scenarios, as well as personal and family relationships, presented by Stephen Boswell ’76, president and CEO, Boswell Engineering. Les Guthrie and Maryann Carroll-Guthrie ’72, M.A.’76, owners of King Harbor Marina, Redondo Beach, California, will share their personal insights on successful planning, review, and implementation.  Sam Basu, the new dean of the Christos M. Cotsakos College of Business at William Paterson, will moderate the discussion.

The Center for Closely Held Business at William Paterson University was developed by and for successful closely held and family business leaders.  It draws on the strengths of the Cotsakos College of Business at William Paterson University—including faculty expertise and research, the College’s world-class facilities and the Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales—as well as local closely held and family businesses.  Among the resources to be offered are practical hands-on workshops, real-world case studies, presentations by industry experts, peer-to-peer problem solving and peer mentoring.

The event is sponsored by the William Paterson University Foundation in conjunction with the University’s Office of Institutional Advancement and the Christos M. Cotsakos College of Business.
