KATHLEEN MULDOON, REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF WILLIAM PATERSON SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER, NAMED SBA’S 2006 NEW JERSEY WOMEN IN BUSINESS CHAMPION OF THE YEAR

Kathleen M. Muldoon, regional director of the William Paterson University Small Business Development Center for Passaic County, has been chosen as the recipient of the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) 2006 New Jersey Women in Business Champion of the Year Award.

Muldoon will receive her award at the SBA’s annual awards luncheon commemorating National Small Business Week (April 9-15, 2006) at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Brunswick on April 28.

“Kate Muldoon’s efforts to increase the opportunities available to women entrepreneurs and to improve the environment for the creation and expansion of businesses owned and operated by women throughout Passaic County is evident through her work at the Small Business Development Center at William Paterson University in Paterson,” says Kocsi.

Robert Seal, executive assistant to the provost at William Paterson University, nominated Muldoon for the award.  “Since assuming the directorship of the SBDC two years ago, Kate Muldoon has transformed the office into a vibrant, productive resource center for small business owners,” says Seal.  “In addition, she is a counselor, mentor and role model for women entrepreneurs.  Her ability to assist women in making the best financial decisions, coupled with her passion for making those financial decisions a reality, is evidenced by the success of the programs she runs.”

Muldoon has been the regional director of the William Paterson Small Business Development Center since 2004.  Previously, Muldoon worked in the financial services industry for more than 19 years in various capacities.  The last eight years of her banking experience gave her the opportunity to develop and manage programs geared towards women’s success in the financial and entrepreneurial arena.

“As a member of New Jersey 300, an organization consisting of New Jersey’s top female and political leaders, Kate advocates on behalf of New Jersey women business owners on issues that have an affect on women entrepreneurs,” says Kocsi. “Her experience in banking combined with her role as the regional director of the Small Business Development Center make her the perfect counselor, mentor, and role model for women entrepreneurs.”

In addition to winning the state award, Muldoon also won SBA’s Regional Women in Business Champion of the Year Award for Region II. For the regional title, Muldoon competed with Women in Business Champions from New York State, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The distinction allowed her to compete for SBA’s National Women in Business Champion of the Year Award.

“National Small Business Week recognizes the hard work, ingenuity and complete dedication of our entrepreneurs and champions.  I am proud of the New Jersey District Office winners for their personal achievements and their contributions to the American economy,” says William M. Manger, SBA region II administrator.
