WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY HOSTS GUITARFEST 2008 ON MAY 3
—Composer and guitarist Jason Vieaux is featured performer


The William Paterson University Music Department will host its 13th annual guitar festival, Guitarfest 2008, on May 3, 2008 in Hobart Manor on the University campus in Wayne. The day’s events include a concert and a master class presented by guitarist Jason Vieaux, a concert presented by guitarist Francisco Roldán and percussionist Danny Mallon, a student concert, and a seminar with Gabriel Handy, a William Paterson University guitar instructor. The program is open to the public. Admission is $20 for one or more events; for students who wish to participate in the master class, the cost is $60.

Festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a performance by William Paterson University students studying in the guitar program. At 1:30 p.m., guitarist and William Paterson University guitar instructor Gabriel Handy will present a seminar on effective practicing strategies. Roldán and Mallon will perform at 3 p.m. and the Vieaux master class begins at 4:30 p.m. Vieaux will perform at 8 p.m.

Guitarist and composer Jason Vieaux is a performer and head of the guitar department at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He is a regularly featured guest soloist with orchestras across the United States and he was chosen as Artistic Ambassador of the United States to Southeast Asia. Vieaux has recorded eight CDs and has a multi-record deal with Azica Records.

Columbian-born guitarist Francisco Roldán is on the faculty of the Mannes College of Music Extension and Preparatory Divisions and at Lehman College, City University of New York. Roldán has an extensive performing career and has recorded music ranging from Bach to a world premiere by the Dominican composer Rafael Landestoy.
