WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY PRESENTS NEW MUSIC SERIES CONCERT ON NOVEMBER 10

William Paterson University in Wayne opens the 31st season of its acclaimed New Music Series on Monday, November 10, 2008 with a concert featuring guest artists Julia Bruskin, cello, Gary Buttery, tuba, and Dominic Donato, percussion, in performance with William Paterson music faculty and students.  The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Shea Center on campus.  Admission is free.

Featured on the program will be two world premieres:  “Gong Tormented” by Eric Moe, performed by percussionist Dominic Donato; and “Trap Set Fantasy” by Wayne Peterson, performed by Peter Jarvis, director of the New Music Series, percussion.  Gary Buttery will perform as tuba soloist on Arthur Kreiger’s “Double Knot,” while cellist Julia Bruskin and pianist Aaron Wunsch, an adjunct professor of music at William Paterson, will perform Sonata for Cello and Piano by Elliott Carter, whose works will be featured throughout the 2008-09 season in celebration of Carter’s 100th birthday on December 11, 2008.

Other works on the program will be “Chaco Golden Knee” by Payton MacDonald, a William Paterson assistant professor of music, who will perform the work on marimba with David Demsey, William Paterson professor of music, on alto saxophone. Intermezzo for Two Percussionists by David Weisberg, assistant professor of music, will be performed by William Paterson student instrumentalists Theo Metz and Jeff Brown. Rounding out the program is Kreiger’s “Occasional Demons,” which will be performed by Peter Jarvis, timpani.
