THREE NEW TRUSTEES, ROBERT F.  GUARASCI, ANNA MARIA MASCOLO, AND LINDA NIRO, APPOINTED TO WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Robert F. Guarasci of Hackensack, Anna Marie Mascolo of Fairview, and Linda Niro of Bridgewater, have been appointed to serve on the Board of Trustees of William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey. Trustees are appointed by the governor on the advice and consent of the state senate.

Guarasci is president, chief operating officer, and founder of the New Jersey Community Development Corporation (NJCDC), a non-profit, community development, and social service agency.

Previously, Guarasci served as executive assistant to the commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS), the largest state department that serves more than one million people each year. DHS and its eight divisions help individuals and families in need keep their lives on track, their families together, a roof over their heads, and their health protected. He worked with the department’s major divisions, including the division of developmental disabilities, mental health services, youth and family services, and Medicaid.

Governor Jon Corzine appointed Guarasci to the New Jersey Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect, where he chairs the Prevention Subcommittee, as well as a statewide panel to examine issues of human services delivery in New Jersey. He also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Paterson Alliance as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of CASA of Passaic County. Guarasci was the recipient of the Governor’s Excellence in Housing Award in 2008.

Guarasci earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from George Washington University.

Mascolo, an attorney, is currently serving as executive assistant to the president of Nassau Community College (NCC) and counsel to the board of trustees. For 12 years, she served as vice president for legal and external affairs and counsel to the NCC board. Previously, she was special assistant to the president for legal affairs and labor relations at Brooklyn College.

She has an extensive background in human resources (needs analysis, counseling, and training and development), labor/employee relations, contracts and collective bargaining, compensation, employee benefits and assistance programs.  Mascolo has progressive and diversified experience in administrative issues. Legal expertise includes counseling and advising senior management, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, and reviewing all contracts. Mascolo has represented senior management on legal matters.

Mascolo earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education from Seton Hall University, and a law degree from St. John’s University School of Law.
She is a member of the New Jersey Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Bergen County Bar Association, and the National Association for College and University Attorneys.

Niro recently retired as executive vice president and chief financial officer for Provident Financial Services, Inc., and The Provident Bank.  She was a member of the executive leadership team at the company and the bank. More than thirty years in banking has given her experience in finance, accounting, asset liability management and treasury management.

Among other responsibilities, she oversaw the preparations of the company’s quarterly and annual financial statements, earnings releases and investor road show presentations.  She was responsible for evaluating acquisition opportunities, developing and managing the annual operating expense budget, and annual business plan process.

Niro earned a bachelor’s degree in special education from William Paterson University. She is a graduate of the National School of Finance and Management at Fairfield University, and is also a graduate of Fairfield’s executive development program.

She is a member of the William Paterson University Foundation Board, where she served as treasurer, and was the chairperson of the finance committee. She is a board member of Dress for Success in Jersey City, and is a member of Executive Women of New Jersey.
