MEDIA ALERT:

WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY STUDENTS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR ST. JUDE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL DURING ALL-NIGHT EVENT ON MARCH 27

—Event in Recreation Center on campus begins at 10 p.m., ends next morning at 5:45 a.m.

More than 400 William Paterson University students are expected to stay up all night beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, March 27, to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The event, to be held in the Recreation Center on the campus in Wayne, is the final initiative as part of the university’s participation in Up ‘til Dawn, a student-led, student-run philanthropic program hosted by colleges and universities nationwide to raise funds for St. Jude.  William Paterson is one of more than 200 campuses across the country participating in the program.

The program asks students to give up a night of sleep in honor of St. Jude’s patients, who fight childhood cancer.  Food, games, and prizes will be available all night long.  Several local businesses, including Brother Bruno’s California Kitchen, Cheeseburger in Paradise, and Stop and Shop are donating food and drinks.  The event will conclude at 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 28 with an announcement of the total amount of money raised; the students’ goal is $20,000.

William Paterson students have been working throughout the 2008-09 academic year to raise funds for St. Jude in honor of Megan Buske, a former student who died in an accident in August 2008.  Students, faculty and staff sent out more than 6,000 letters to family and friends asking them to donate to St. Jude.  All money raised will be donated to St. Jude in Buske’s memory.
