William Paterson University Offers Latin Music Concert

A high-energy, multicultural group, Viva Quetzal! will perform traditional and modern Latin American music on Thursday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. in William Paterson University’s Shea Center for the Performing Arts on the campus in Wayne.

The group, which includes South American folkloric musicians and composers and New England rock and jazz musicians/composers, performs an eclectic mixture of traditional, folkloric and pop themes on a profusion of ancient and modern instruments.
They will present melodies of the Quechuas, Aymaras, Incas and Andean music from Bolivia, Peru and Chile. Other musical elements draw from South American, Caribbean, and North American jazz and rock sources.

The group includes Alfredo Velaquez, lead vocals, bamboo flutes and traditional string instruments; Joe Belmont, lead acoustic and electric guitars, Colombia tiple and charango; Rudi Weeks, acoustic and electric basses and vocals; Jon Weeks, saxophones, wind instruments, hand percussion, vocals and sound effects; and Kevin Richard, kit drums and percussion.

Ticket prices are $12 standard; $10 senior citizens and William Paterson community; $6 children 12 years and under and William Paterson students, limit 2 per ID. For tickets, please call the Shea Center Box Office at 973-720-2371.
