News Notes

Three William Paterson students participated in student auditions and masterclasses sponsored by the New Jersey National Association of Teachers of Singing on November 3.  Ashley Benson, a junior in majoring in classical performance, placed second in her division.  Jennifer Sisco, who competed in the senior division, was chosen to perform in the public masterclass in German lieder presented by Dr. Stephen Oosting from Montclair State University. Stephanie Irvin, a piano major and a first semester voice minor, also participated.  Warren Helms, an adjunct professor in the music department, served as the pianist for the students.

Two student ensembles performed works by Handel, Beethoven and other composers during a concert for pediatric patients at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson on November 1.  The students performed as part of the Medical Missions for Children’s Giggles Children’s Theater there, which presents live performances that are also delivered via closed-circuit television to children who are too ill to come to the theater.  The William Paterson University Flute Ensemble includes Liz Markson of West Milford, Jenna Sandman of Hazlet, Kymmara McGill of Paterson, Paola Hernandez of Sunnyside, New York, and Brenda Belohoubek of Wyckoff.  The William Paterson University Woodwind Quartet is comprised of Hernandez, Alyssa Ahearn of Bergenfield, Vivian Lau of Bergenfield, and Justin Shepard of Butler.
