Raymond Torres-Santos, Dean, College of the Arts and Communication, conducted the Puerto Rico Philharmonic, the Ars Vocalis chorus, and vocal soloists on November 30, 2008 in the Theater of the National Museum of Art in Santurce, Puerto Rico. The concert program featured several of Torres-Santos’s symphonic compositions and arrangements for the concert hall and film, including 1898 Overture, Fantasia Caribeña, Danza, Bella estrella, Ni tan solo un instante, Song for Rosalind and Ensueño. In his role as conductor, Torres-Santos introduced each work within a cultural, historical and educational context.
William Paterson faculty and students made presentations at the annual meeting of the American Society of Criminology in St. Louis, Missouri in November 2008. Sheetal Ranjan, assistant professor sociology, submitted student papers from her spring 2008 Qualitative Research Methods class. The papers were peer reviewed and accepted for presentation in a round table session titled “Qualitative Research Methods in Criminal Justice: A First Experience.” Student presenters were Melissa Falsone, “Female Police Officers: Are They Perceived Any Differently?”; Tiffany Matos, “Self-Identification as a Minority and Interaction with Violence;” and Jackie Garcia, “Battered Women and the Road to the Shelter.”
The William Paterson University Pioneer Hockey Team is currently ranked in first place in the Northeast Region of the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division II for the first time in school history. “Being ranked number one is a real testament to all the hard work our team has put in,” says co-head coach Bob Carnathan. “We have to continue to work hard to maintain our position.” The team plays its home games at the Ice Vault in Wayne; the next home game is Sunday, January 11 at 8:15 p.m.
