Nationally Ranked Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams to Play in NCAA Tournaments this Weekend

William Paterson’s nationally ranked basketball teams will compete in the opening rounds of the NCAA Division III Tournaments this weekend. The seventh-ranked men (25-2), winners of the NJAC Tournament, will host the first two rounds, starting with a contest against Albertus Magnus on Friday, March 5, at 8:00 p.m. at the Rec Center.

The No. 10/9 women (25-2) will take on Mary Washington in the first round on March 5 at 6:00 p.m. in Rochester, N.Y. Second-round games will be conducted on Saturday, March 6.

Cotsakos College of Business Maintains International Accreditation from AACSB

William Paterson has successfully maintained its international accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International for the undergraduate and graduate programs offered by its Cotsakos College of Business. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.

Middle Eastern Art and Culture is The Focus of Cross-Cultural Festival
—Events include music performances, art exhibits, and film series

An arts festival that celebrates the wide range of cultures among countries in the Middle East will be held on campus from March 23 to 28 as part of the University’s inaugural Cross-Cultural Arts Festival.

All events are open to the public. Admission to most events is free.

Campus Supports Haiti Relief Efforts

Sheila Collins, political science, has been invited to present a paper and to serve as a discussion leader at the Oxford Forum, an international, interdisciplinary think tank at Oxford University in England from March 21 to 26. The theme of the forum is: "The Copenhagen Protocol: Problems and Possibilities." Read More

William Paterson University Celebrates Women’s History Month in March

Writing Women Back Into History is this year’s theme as William Paterson University celebrates Women’s History Month in March with lectures and performances that support the theme. All events listed are open to the public; most are free.

The Legacy Award Gala and Silent Auction, to be held on Friday, April 16, 2010, will be particularly special for the campus community. Arnold Speert will be honored for his 25 years as president and more than 40 years of leadership and service to William Paterson University. The Legacy Award Gala and Silent Auction supports the mission of William Paterson University in promoting student success and academic excellence.

  • As a courtesy to members of the campus community, faculty and staff are offered a special price of $200 per ticket -- a 50 percent discount.

  • Part of the Legacy festivities will include an online auction that runs through April 14. University Opens New Center for Chinese Art and Culture

—Grand opening ceremony to be held on March 8

Center for Chinese Art logWilliam Paterson’s newly opened Center for Chinese Art is already giving students and members of the community the opportunity to broaden their understanding of Chinese art and culture through ongoing programs and events. A grand opening ceremony for the Center is planned for Monday, March 8 at 4:00 p.m. on the campus in Wayne.

Chinese New Year Celebration

The newly established Center for Chinese Art on campus held a Chinese New Year celebration on February 17 welcoming the Year of the Tiger. Performing at the program was Yang Yi, who played the guzheng, an ancient Chinese string instrument. Zhao Naiyi, who acts in Chinese opera, offered a “Changing Faces” performance. This particular art form shows a character’s inner thoughts and feelings in a romantic way. Also performing were the William Paterson University Jazz Ensemble, part of the University’s internationally known Jazz Studies Program.

Upcoming Arts Events

Peter and the Wolf,” a musical for children by the Pushcart Players, will be presented on Saturday, March 6 at 2:00 p.m. in Shea Center.

Legendary percussionist Pete Escovedo, Sr. joins the Latin Jazz Ensemble led by Chico Mendoza on March 7, as part of the spring Jazz Room Series. The concert will begin at 4:00 p.m. in Shea Center.

"The Little Mermaid," the classic musical presented by American Family Theatre, will be presented on March 27 at 2:00 p.m. in Shea Center.

NJAC Women’s Basketball Awards Announced

William Paterson’s Erin Monahan was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year, while sophomore guard BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) was selected to the All-NJAC First Team and senior guard Julie Haledjian (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) was a second-team honoree.

Softball to Start Campaign on March 13

Fresh off the 2009 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament championship and a spot in the NCAA Tournament regional final, the William Paterson softball team will start its 2010 season from March 13 to 19 at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.


NJAC Men’s Basketball Awards Announced

William Paterson’s Jose Rebimbas was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball “John K. Adams” Coach of the Year and senior forward Abdoulaye Ouedraogo (Newark, N.J./Newark Science) was selected as both the “Pony Wilson” Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year, the league office announced on Feb. 25. Ouedraogo was joined on the All-NJAC First Team by Pioneer senior guard Joseph Ellis (Newark, N.J./Newark Science).
