ART AT LUNCH LECTURE SERIES EXPLORES
CHANGES IN VISUAL ARTS DURING THE TWENTIETH CENTURY This season, during the 14th anniversary of the lunch hour lecture program, the series will explore some of the major transformations in the visual arts of the past 100 years and the ways they may impact on our culture in the future. Lectures will be held on Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. in William Paterson's Ben Shahn Galleries. Individual lectures are $3 per person; subscriptions for the fall series are also available. For ticket information, call William Paterson's Shea Center Box Office at 973-720-2371. The series will examine the events of the past century that altered our ideas about the visual arts. "While looking back, we will also seek to see beyond the year 2000," says Nancy Einreinhofer, director of William Paterson's Ben Shahn Galleries. Topics this semester include architecture, painting, the computer, artists' books, craft and design. The fall series, which runs from September 16 through October 21, begins with the poetics of time and the apocalyptic vision explored through the language and poetry of the 20th century. The next five lectures examine the shape and content of artists' books since 1950, the influence of Picasso, crafts in the 20th century, architecture, and the computer as a revolutionary artists' tool. Art at Lunch lectures last approximately 45 minutes. Attendees are invited to bring a brown bag lunch to the informal gatherings; coffee and tea are provided. Special parking is available in Lot 6, near the William Paterson Rec Center, where a free shuttle bus provides transportation to Ben Shahn beginning at 11 a.m. For additional information on the series,
please call the Ben Shahn Galleries at 973-720-2654. ###
