CAMPUS MINISTRY TO DEDICATE NEW CHAPEL The Catholic Campus Ministry Center at William Paterson University in Wayne will dedicate its newly constructed chapel on Wednesday, September 1, 1999 at 6 p.m. as part of the institution's annual University Day celebration. Father Louis Scurti, director of the campus ministry, and coordinator of campus ministry for the Diocese of Paterson, and the Most Rev. Frank J. Rodimer, Bishop of the Diocese of Paterson, will concelebrate the Mass, to be held at the Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace Chapel at 219 Pompton Road in Haledon. "The name, 'Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace,' focuses on the goal and mission of the chapel: to be a house of peace and prayer to all who enter," reports Father Lou, as he is known on campus. "In the words of a student, 'It expresses what we are all about, Christ's work of peace.'" The chapel was named in honor of our Lord, under the title of Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace, taken from Isaiah 9: 1-6: "They shall name Him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace. " The center is open to all members of the university and sponsors social, service, self-awareness and spiritual programs on behalf of the university and local community. It was named in honor of Bishop Rodimer, who was instrumental in the construction of the chapel through the Bishop's Annual Appeal as well as his own donation. The Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace Chapel and renovated Bishop Frank J. Rodimer Catholic Campus Ministry Center were constructed under the direction of Father Scurti. "It has been and continues to be the mission of the Catholic Campus Ministry Center to provide a 'home away from home' atmosphere for the University community by offering spiritual development, counseling, leadership and growth programs," Father Lou says. "This mission continues through the chapel and the center, which are open for prayer, relaxation, meetings, sorority and fraternity retreats and gatherings." The CCM Center offers bible study within the Catholic tradition, Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, lector and Eucharistic ministers preparation, retreats, the annual model Seder/Mass with Jewish and Catholic students, Christmas Eve and Holy Week celebrations, ecumenical services, parties, and many outreach programs in the north Jersey area.
