William Paterson University
to Hold Bi-Lingual/ESL Conference A conference designed to highlight
how language and social identity are closely bound together for language
learners, and how the ability to interact meaningfully plays a major role
in the learners development and self-worth, will be the focus of
the 21st Annual Bilingual/ESL World Languages Conference to be held at
William Paterson University on Friday, December 14 in Wayne. "Social Identity and Language
Learning" will address these and other pertinent sociolinguistic
and academic language issues, including future directions for language
educators, and insightful language teaching techniques. The program will
be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Machuga Student Center Ballroom.
The fee is $79 and includes lunch. University students currently enrolled
may attend for $35. A series of workshops will
be held from 9 to 10 a.m., and again from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Time has been
set aside for a book exhibition following the morning program. Nancy Hornberger,
an internationally known sociolinguist, and a professor at the University
of Pennsylvania, will deliver the keynote address, "Biliteracy and
Identity," at 11:30 a.m., also in the Student Center Ballroom.
