Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to Speak at William Paterson University

Lady Margaret Thatcher, the former prime minister of Britain, will continue the 20th anniversary season of the Distinguished Lecturer Series at William Paterson University in Wayne with a lecture on December 10. Lady Thatcher's address, "Challenges Facing the 21st Century," builds on her extensive experience in politics including her 11 years in the country's top elected post.

A limited number of single tickets may be available at the Shea Center Box Office for the lecture on December 6. For ticket availability, and to purchase single tickets, please call the box office at 973-720-2371 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.; prices are $23 standard; $21 for senior citizens, William Paterson faculty, staff and alumni; $8 for William Paterson students; and $12 for students from other schools. All lectures begin at 8:00 p.m. in Shea Center on campus.

Building a stellar political career from humble beginnings as a grocer's daughter, she eventually rose to become one of Britain's most outspoken leaders and Britain's first female and longest-serving 20th century prime minister. Her conservative policies earned her the unofficial title of "The Iron Lady."

During her term of office she restructured the country's socialized economy, broke the power of the unions and privatized many companies formerly owned by the state. Now retired from public life, Lady Thatcher serves as chancellor at Buckingham University in England and William and Mary College in Virginia. The recipient of numerous awards, including the Ronald Reagan Freedom Award presented in 1998, she is patron of a number of charities and has established her own foundation.
