Political Humorist to Speak at William Paterson University Comedian Al Franken will bring his satirical brand of political commentary to William Paterson University's Distinguished Lecturer Series as the 21st season of the series comes to a close on Friday, April 27 at 8 p.m. in Shea Center on the campus in Wayne. Franken first found fame on "Saturday Night Live" in 1975. He was part of the original writing staff that created the hit show which airs on NBC at 11:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Franken was affiliated with the show for 15 years, and earned five Emmy Awards, four for writing and one for producing the comedy show. In 1988, he provided commentary for CNN at the Democratic Convention in Atlanta, and four years later he anchored Comedy Central's "Indecision '92" on election night. He is a frequent guest on the late-night talk shows and is the author of the best-selling book, "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations." His album, "You're Good Enough, You're Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like You!" was nominated for a Grammy in the best comedy category. Franken has also won acclaim for his on-camera work, first as part of the comedy team Franken and Davis, and then for his solo characterizations.
