In his address, "Living in the Age of Possibilities," Gingrich offers a topic designed to open discussion of the "unique challenges and opportunities presented by the information age and the global market world" and how all "fields of study share a common connection to information technology." Gingrich, who, according to a recent article in the New York Times Magazine, "was ousted after last year's elections," served as Speaker from 1995, becoming the first Republican Speaker to be reelected since 1928. During his tenure, he was considered the chief architect of "Contract with America," whose principle goal, a balanced budget, was achieved in 1997. That accomplishment earned him Time magazine's "Man of the Year" designation in 1995. He was also named "Georgian of the Year" and Georgia March of Dimes "Citizen of the Year" for that year. Prior to his high-profile political career, Gingrich, who is from Georgia, earned a master' degree and a doctorate from Tulane University in modern European history. He taught history and environmental studies at West Georgia College for eight years. Gingrich is the author of five books including three best sellers, "To Renew America," "Lesson Learned the Hard Way" and "Contract with America," co-authored with Dick Armey.
