William Paterson University Hosts First National Meeting of Campus Girl Scouts

The first national conference designed to share experiences and ideas about campus girl scouting for Campus Girl Scouts will be held at William Paterson University in Wayne on June 2 to 4.

"Campus Girl Scouts 2000: Shaping the World of Tomorrow" will bring together, for the first time, more than 40 Campus Girl Scouts, ages 18-22, and their advisors for a three-day conference to share information about campus girl scouting. Dana Romatowski, a May 2000 William Paterson graduate, and founder of the William Paterson Campus Girl Scout group, organized the conference.

Representatives from William Paterson's campus girl scouts and 23 other colleges and universities around the country including the Naval Academy, American University, Texas A&M University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the University of Florida are scheduled to attend.

Girl Scouts will arrive on Thursday, June 1. On Friday, they will spend the day in New York City. A series of informational workshops will be held on campus Saturday morning and afternoon beginning at 9 a.m. Topics to be discussed include recruitment, fundraising, public relations, programming and advising.

A banquet will be held on Saturday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the Machuga Student Center Restaurant on campus. Two keynote speakers, Elinor Johnstone Ferdon, Immediate Past National President of Girl Scouts USA, and Mary Ann Mullin, senior informational and referral specialist for Girl Scouts USA and a William Paterson alumna, will speak; a Girl Scout Silver Award ceremony will be held for a number of Wayne Cadettes.

A young leader speakout will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, followed immediately by a barbecue.

The conference is sponsored by the William Paterson University Campus Girl Scouts, the Lenni Lenape Girl Scout Council and the Girl Scouts of the USA. The William Paterson Campus Girl Scouts are one of 110 Campus Girl Scout Chapters in the United States, and one of only six in New Jersey.
