A Vibrant Season of Visual
Art A Vibrant Season of Visual Art A smorgasbord of sensorial delights will be served during the upcoming season in William Paterson University's Ben Shahn Galleries. Nancy Einreinhofer, University gallery director, has scheduled a wide array of exceptional artists and works designed to appeal to diverse tastes. The 2001 Ð 2002 season begins on September 13 with three exhibits: "John Goodyear Ð From Painting to Sculpture," on view in the Court Gallery, "Paintings of William Paterson People" by Marvin Friedman in the East Gallery, and the "University Faculty Exhibit" on display in the South Gallery. Goodyear is best known for his abstract sculptures and construction works; Friedman is a portraitist who integrates biographical data into the visual concept of his models; and members of the University art department will display examples of paintings, drawings, prints, photography, sculpture, graphic design, computer animation, furniture, and textile design. The exhibits continue through October 12. The second slate of exhibits opens October 22 and continues through November 30. Bill Stewart, who creates figurative sculpture from clay that is paradoxically simple and complex, shows his ceramic sculpture in the Court Gallery. In the South Gallery, portraits from the collection of Alma Alabilikian and Peter Paone will be on view in a show titled "The Artist Revealed." Alabilikian and Paone have collected photographs of famous artists that allow the viewer a private look into each of their lives. In the East Gallery, Susan Bee will present paintings and drawings in a collection entitled "Ice Cream Sunday." From January 31 through March 8, a show titled "Issues of Identity in Recent American Art" will be on view in the Court Gallery. New Jersey artist Bernarda Bryson Shahn (and wife of the late Ben Shahn, for whom the Galleries are named) will present paintings, drawings and prints. James RansomeÕs illustrations are spotlighted in the East Gallery. The final series of exhibits begins March 25 and concludes April 26. They include a unique installation work in the Court Gallery by Lucio Pozzi; the annual juried print show, Northeast Prints 2002, in the South Gallery; and a solo show by Carol Westfall, winner of the Northeast Prints 2001 competition, displayed in the East Gallery. All exhibits are free and open to the public and are completely wheelchair accessible. For additional information, please call the Ben Shahn Galleries at 973-720-2654. # # #
