BILL EVANS AND HIS QUARTET
PERFORM IN JAZZ ROOM SERIES AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY The concert will begin at 4 p.m. in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on the campus in Wayne. Tickets are available in advance or on the day of the performance at $12 standard; $10 for senior citizens and William Paterson community; $6 for children 12 years and under and William Paterson students. Described by Miles Davis as
"one of the greatest musicians I've ever come upon," the young
saxophonist Bill Evans has won praise from master musicians and endorsement
for being one of music's most original and exciting new entrants. Evans
joined the ranks of Miles Davis' historic comeback band in 1980 at the
age of 22. Since his emergence in the 1980s, he has contributed to the
band "Elements" with bassist Mark Egan and drummer Danny Gottlieb,
John McLaughlin's revamped Mahavishnu Orchestra, and has recorded and
toured with Herbie Hancock, Andy Summers, Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour, and
other well-known artists. Evans has toured Europe, South
America, and Asia extensively and established himself as a leader in the
international music scene. His recently released 12th CD, titled "Soul
Insider," features the legendary soul singer/ pianist Les McCann
as well as Steve Jordon and Ricky Peterson. "Soul Insider" has
received a prestigious jazz award in Germany for being tops on the charts. Evans and his group will be
the guests for "Sittin In," an informal discussion with
the artists presented before the concert. The talk begins at 3 p.m. in
room 101 of Shea Center. Admission is free to all Jazz Room ticketholders. Launched in the spring of 1978,
William Patersons Jazz Room Series has earned a reputation for presenting
concerts by eminent musicians in the jazz world. The series has been awarded
numerous grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New Jersey
State Council on the Arts, and Citations of Excellence from the Council
