PIANIST JODY WISE CELEBRATES AMERICAN PIANO MUSIC AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY'S MIDDAY SERIES Pianist Jody Wise, who has been described by a New York Times critic as possessing "intellect and daring pianism," will perform at William Paterson University on Thursday, October 19 as part of the 2000-01 Midday Artist Series. The concert begins at 12:30 p.m. in Shea Center. Admission is $3. The program, "Millennium Mosaic: A Celebration of American Piano Music," will showcase some lesser-known, first-rate American composers from the 1890s to 1990s, as well as prominent artists Samuel Barber and Scott Joplin. Wise has performed with many orchestras and ensembles in the United States, including the Los Angeles, St. Paul, and Santa Fe Chamber Orchestras, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. Her performances abroad include appearances with the English Chamber Orchestra, the Belgian National Orchestra and the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, among others. A native of West Virginia, Wise presented her first solo at the age of seven, and at 16 was awarded the Gold Medal at the National Young Performing Arts Competition in Miami. She received a bachelor of music degree from Oberlin College and a master of music degree from the University of Southern California. During fall 2000, Wise will undertake an extensive three-month tour throughout the United States where she will perform "Millennium Mosaic" at numerous festivals and series as part of millennial celebrations across the country. William Paterson's Midday Artists Series continues on Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. throughout the fall and spring semesters.
