WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY TO PRESENT THE CLASSIC GREEK COMEDY "LYSISTRATA" BY ARISTOPHANES

"Lysistrata," the comic masterpiece by Aristophanes, will be staged at William Paterson University in Wayne on November 16, 17, 18 and 20 at 8 p.m., November 19 at 3 p.m., and November 20 and 21 at 10 a.m. in Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus.

Tickets are $10 standard, $7 for the William Paterson community and senior citizens, $6 for students, and $5 for high school groups. Ed Mathews, head of William Paterson's Performing Arts Resource Management Unit, directs the production which features a cast of student actors.
First performed at Athens in the early spring of the year 411 B.C.E., "Lysistrata" is a classic comedy that revolves around two themes of enduring relevance: war and sex. No playwright since has explored the absurdities and incongruities of the human sexual drive with such bawdy abandon and dazzling play of wit. And none has presented a more devastating attack on military madness, or so telling a plea for the sanity of peace. "Lysistrata" is a sexual comedy without peer in the history of theatre.

Featured in the cast are William Paterson students Goldie Avalos of Redlands, CA; Rashad Davis of Bridgeton; Louis Durante of Mahwah; Raechel Heffers of Barnegat; Jaclyn Hunt of Kenilworth; Jennifer Keeler of Wildwood Crest; Edward Kotwica of Garfield; Sandra Leach of Absecon; Malika Oyetimein of Somerdale; EdraBeth Pantazes of Northfield; and Eric Patterson of Newark. For additional information or to purchase tickets, please call the Shea Center Box Office at 973-720-2371.

Matthews is a graduate of the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, and holds a master's degree from Idaho State University and a master of fine arts degree in directing/acting from Sarah Lawrence College. He has more than 15 years of experience as a professional lighting designer for metropolitan area theatre productions.
