VINCENT MAZZOLA NAMED WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY TRUSTEE

Vincent Mazzola, director of the wireless customer program team for Lucent Technologies, an industry leader in providing telecommunications products globally, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of William Paterson University in Wayne.

Confirmed by the New Jersey State Senate, he was appointed to a six-year term by Governor Christine Todd Whitman.

Mazzola, who assumed his current post at Lucent in November 1998, leads an organization responsible for the services provided to all Lucent Technologies cellular and PCS infrastructure customers in North America. As director of services for Lucent from 1996 to 1998, Mazzola supervised the engineering and deployment of wireless networks throughout North America. Previously, from 1991 to 1996, he established and led similar organizations for Lucent in the Asia/Pacific region, supporting the sales and deployment of cellular networks in Korea, China, Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, India and the Philippines.

Mazzola began his career at AT&T in 1982. In 1991, he joined AT&T's Network Systems Group which became part of Lucent Technologies in 1996. He has held numerous leadership positions in sales, product management, marketing and customer support for Lucent Technologies and companies such as Xerox Corporation, Honeywell Information Systems and Northern Telecom.

A former military officer and decorated Vietnam veteran, Mazzola is a 1973 graduate of William Paterson University with a bachelor's degree in psychology. He has participated in executive development programs at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and at the University of Southern California.

Mazzola resides in Mendham with his wife, Mary Ann, and their two daughters, Emily and Katherine.

William Paterson University, one of the nine state colleges and universities in New Jersey, is dedicated to two key principles -- academic excellence and student success. With an annual budget of $90 million, the university offers 29 undergraduate and 17 graduate programs to more than 9,000 students. The 320-acre campus features 26 major facilities and provides housing for nearly 2,000 students. The institution has 342 full-time faculty.
