HANDELS MESSIAH TO BE PERFORMED AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY In times of stress, ritual
often provides solace. From the soothing strains of "Comfort Ye"
to the requisite "Hallelujah Chorus," Handels "Messiah"
is an annual holiday tradition. The Orchestra at William Paterson University
presents a special performance on Saturday, December 8 at 7 p.m. in the
Shea Center for Performing Arts in Wayne. The concert will also feature
Mozarts "Exultate Jubilate." Italo Marchini conducts the
Ars Musica Chorale, the Orchestra, and guest soloists Noelle Barbera,
soprano; Carla Wood, mezzo soprano; and Glen Boothby, bass. From Macao
to Parma to Charleston to New York, Marchini is a versatile and commanding
conductor. Barbera is equally at home on the operatic and concert stage
and performs double duty as soloist in the Handel and the Mozart. Wood
is a New York City Opera veteran who is also featured soloist on the world
premiere recording of the Villa Lobos "Symphony No. 10." Boothby
concertizes on both sides of the Atlantic and is a favorite at the Spoleto
Festival (Italy). This professional orchestra
is underwritten, in part, by William Paterson University, and the Passaic
County Cultural and Heritage Council at Passaic County Community College
through the State County Block Grant Program of the New Jersey State Council
on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment
for the Arts. Tickets to the holiday event
are $25 standard, $5 children 17 and under with identification. For information
call 973-720-2371.
