VIOLINIST ROLF SCHULTE PERFORMS IN WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY NEW MUSIC SERIES

Celebrated German violinist Rolf Schulte, who has recorded for the most innovative and inspiring composers in contemporary music, will perform during the 1999 New Music Festival at William Paterson University in Wayne. The concert will be held on Monday, October 18 at 8 p.m. in Shea Center. Admission is free.

The New York Times has described Schulte's performances as "uncommonly expressive and giving" and "a mixture of technical fireworks, emotional heat, and intellectual command."
Schulte was the top prize winner in the Munich International Radio Competition in 1969. He subsequently came to the United States to study with violin virtuoso Ivan Galamian at the Curtis Institute of Music.

Successful in both the United States and Europe, Schulte has recorded for all the West German radio stations and the BBC/London and can be heard on Bridge Record's release of Ligeti's "Horn Trio." Schulte performed the American premiere of Paul Ruder's Violin Concerto No. 1 with the Riverside Philharmonia at Alice Tully Hall. In 1997, he premiered Donaldo Martino's Violin Concerto with the New Hampshire Symphony.

William Paterson's New Music Festival is directed by Raymond Des Roches, a William Paterson professor of music and one of the country's premier percussionists. The series is dedicated to highlighting the works of contemporary composers.
