GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING GUITARIST
PERFORMS WITH THE ORCHESTRA AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY The Orchestra at William Paterson
University opens its 16th season with Grammy Award-winning guitarist Sharon
Isbin. The concert is slated for Saturday, October 20, 2001 at 8 p.m.
in the Shea Center for Performing Arts at William Paterson University
in Wayne. In the last two seasons, Isbin
performed over 100 concerts internationally. Featured on 20 different
recordings, she recently recorded Joaquin Rodrigos "Concierto
de Aranjuez" for EMI/Virgin Classics, which was dubbed "magnificent"
by the composer. The compact disc also includes Bachs complete Lute
Suites. Isbin has served as artistic
director and soloist for festivals at Carnegie Hall, the Ordway Music
Theatre (St. Paul), her own series at New York City´s 92nd Street
Y, and the nationally acclaimed radio series "Guitarjam." She
is a frequent guest on nationally broadcast radio programs including "St.
Paul Sunday," "All Things Considered," and Garrison Keillor´s
"A Prairie Home Companion." Profiles of Isbin have appeared
on "CBS Sunday Morning" and "A&E´s Breakfast
with the Arts," and in periodicals from "People" to "Elle;"
she has been featured on the cover of more than 20 magazines. Guest conductor David Wroe,
music director and conductor of the Westfield Symphony Orchestra, also
conducts John Adams "The Chairman Dances, Foxtrot for Orchestra"
from his opera "Nixon in China," and Edward Elgars "Enigma
Variations," musical portraits of the composers various friends. This professional orchestra
is underwritten, in part, by William Paterson University, and the Passaic
County Cultural and Heritage Council at Passaic County Community College
through the State County Block Grant Program of the New Jersey State Council
on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment
for the Arts. Tickets for the concert are
$25 and $20, depending on the section. Students can purchase two tickets
at $15 each; student ID is required. A $55 subscription for the Orchestras
three-concert season can be purchased until October 20. For additional
