DAVID WROE LEADS THE ORCHESTRA AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY IN SEASON FINALE
-- Winner of the Mae and Fletcher Fish Young Artist Competition to Perform

David Wroe, music director of New Jersey's Westfield Symphony Orchestra, will lead The Orchestra at William Paterson University in its final concert of the season on Saturday, April 15.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. in the Shea Center for Performing Arts at William Paterson University in Wayne, where the Orchestra is in residence. The program will include Igor Stravinsky's "Scenes de Ballet" and Hanson's Symphony No. 2 "Romantic," as well as works performed by Catherine Resnick of Red Bank, the winner of The Orchestra's Mae and Fletcher Fish Young Artist Competition, and Yoo-Sun Park of Old Tappan, first runner up.
In addition to serving as the Westfield Symphony's music director, Wroe is principle conductor of the Philharmonische Der Stadt Heidelberg and music director of the Kansas City Camerata. Previously, he served as assistant conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Wroe has conducted the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Saint Louis Symphony, New York City Ballet and other major orchestras. His opera credits include "La Boheme" with the Stadt Theatre der Heidelberg, as well as "Fidelio" and "Amadis." A native of Great Britain, Wroe is a graduate of Manchester University in England and Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.

Prior to the concert, John Link, professor of music at William Paterson, will present a lecture about the musical program that is free to all ticketholders in room 101 of Shea Center at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the concert are $20 and $25, depending on the location. Students may purchase two tickets for the rear loge at $5 each; a valid I.D. card is required.

The Orchestra, formerly known as the Wayne Chamber Orchestra, is supported in part by grants from the Passaic County Cultural and Heritage Council through a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State. In addition, the orchestra is underwritten in part by William Paterson University and supported by gifts from private individuals, area businesses and corporations. The ensemble has gained national recognition both for its excellence of performance and imaginative programming.
The Mae and Fletcher Fish Young Orchestra Competition, named after its benefactors Mae and Fletcher Fish, reflects The Orchestra's commitment to promoting youth education and participation in the arts.
