WILLIAM
PATERSON UNIVERSITY GUITARFEST 2002 ON MAY 4
The
William Paterson University Music Department presents its seventh
annual guitar festival, Guitarfest 2002, on Saturday, May 4. The
Universitys Music Department collaborates with the Ringwood
Friends of Music to bring virtuoso guitarist and noted arranger
Carlos Barbosa-Lima as the featured guest artist. The program is
open to all guitar enthusiasts, from high school students to adults.
Festivities
begin at 11:30 a.m. with a recital by the William Paterson University
Guitar Ensemble. A special highlight of the day is a 2 p.m. master
class and informal lecture on arranging with Barbosa-Lima. Staten
Islands Curtis High School Guitar Ensemble, under the direction
of Lou Mannarino, will perform at 5 p.m. All morning and afternoon
events are in the Cheng Library Auditorium on the University campus
in Wayne.
The 8 p.m. evening concert is presented at the Community Presbyterian
Church in Ringwood as a part of the Ringwood Friends of Musics
annual concert series. The concert, "Latin Romances with Carlos
Barbosa-Lima and Friends," also features Meliset Abreu, a competition-winning
guitarist, Carol Shansky, an award-winning flutist, and Seth Himmelhoch,
director of guitar studies at William Paterson University. Round-trip
bus transportation and directions will be provided from the University
to the church.Admission to the William Paterson Guitarfest is $7.
