JOHN AMOS TO PERFORM "HALLEYS COMET"
AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY
A play which tells the fictional life of a man whose lifespan mirrors
that of a comet on a 77-year cycle is to be performed at William
Paterson University on Friday, February 22 on the campus in Wayne.
"Halleys Comet," a one-man play written, directed
and performed by John Amos, will be presented in Shea Center for
Performing Arts at 8 p.m. Ticket prices are $22 standard; $20 senior
citizens and William Paterson community; and $7 for children 12
years and under and William Paterson students.
The work tells the story of an 87-year-old man who uses the appearance
of Halleys Comet, which he saw as an 11-year-old boy, as a
framework for the memories of a lifetime. Amos chronicles the journey
of his characters life as the century progresses through world
wars, the follies of youth, nuclear bombs and fast food.
The play has been called a "remarkable tour-de force"
and performances in New York and London have been critically acclaimed.
The show was the opening performance of the 1991 national celebration
of Black History Month at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington,
D.C. and has toured in cities across the country and in Europe.
Amos is an Emmy-award-winning actor whose long and illustrious
career has led to appearances on Broadway, television and in film
as an actor, director and writer.
