FEBRUARY 22 24 AND FEBRUARY 27 MARCH 2
Paula Vogels critically acclaimed and award-winning drama,
"How I Learned to Drive," will be presented by a cast
of community actors, students and alumni at the Hunziker Black Box
Theatre at William Paterson University in Wayne. The play is slated
for a run February 22 24 and February 27 March 2.
The original production won the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for drama,
the Outer Critics Award, three Drama Desk Awards, four Obie
Awards, and four Lucille Lortel Awards, among others.
"How I Learned to Drive" concerns the relationship between
a young woman nicknamed Lil Bit, played by Jennifer Lengares
of Hewitt, and her Uncle Peck, played by Jeffrey Norman of Lincoln
Park. This coming-of-age story takes place in the 1960s and 70s
and is defined by driving lessons provided by Peck lessons
which extend well beyond learning the rules of the road. Despite
the emotional, delicate subject, "How I Learned to Drive"
is suprisingly humorous, lighthearted and profound.
Included in the cast are Amy Edelstein of Wayne, Ellen Saunders
of Gibbsboro, and Jay Ludwig, professor of communication at William
Paterson University. The production is directed by Jerry Beal, assistant
professor of communication at William Paterson University.
