RICHARD
SHINDELL BRINGS POPULAR FOLK-ROCK STYLE TO WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY
Popular
folk singer Richard Shindell will perform at William Paterson University
in Wayne on Saturday, April 27 at 8 p.m. in Shea Center as part of
the Universitys Cultural Series.
Born in Lakehurst and reared on Long Island, Shindell is now an expatriate
New Yorker living in Argentina. Influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan,
Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Paul Simon, and Hank Williams,
Shindell has journeyed from tiny coffeehouses to the best listening
rooms in America, from the smoky bar to the concert hall. With a folk-rock
style described as supple, fluid, intelligent and muscular, Shindell
captures an audience and carries them down a musical path full of
imagery and color, pain and pleasure.
Shindell is a critically acclaimed meticulous craftsman of song and
a consummate performer. "Courier," Shindells latest
compact disc, follows his popular 2000 release "Somewhere Near
Paterson." "Courier" captures Shindell and his band
at their live best in 2001. Recorded over three nights at theatres
in the Northeast, "Courier" moves through the Shindell songbook
from strength to strength, from the religious, erotic metaphor of
"On A Sea of Fleur de Lis" to the full-throated menace of
"Fishing," a high-wire tour-de-force of an INS agent interrogating
an illegal alien.
Admission is $20 standard and $18 for senior citizens. For additional
information, please call the Shea Center Box Office at 973-720-2371.
