William Paterson University Sponsors Conference
for Women Geared for Success on March 9
A conference organized by and for women designed to offer lessons
in assertiveness, communication, and leadership for students will
be held at William Paterson University on Saturday, March 9.
The Fifth Annual Sister to Sister Conference, "Affirming our
Strengths: Celebrating and Embracing Global Sisterhood," will
be held in the Machuga Student Center on the campus in Wayne from
8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to all. A continental
breakfast and lunch buffet will be provided.
A series of ten workshops geared to giving participants a greater
sense of commitment to academic and career success will be held
throughout the day including:
"Understanding Each Other A Journey to Country A-Z;"
"Assertiveness Rules;" "Facing Our Fears and Reaching
for Success;" "Money and Finance;" and "Womens
Health Care."
Sonia Sanchez, an award-winning poet, will present the keynote address
at 12:30 p.m., entitled "The Strength of Global Sisterhood."
She is a well-known activist and lecturer on Black culture and literature,
womens liberation, peace, and racial justice. She has authored
numerous books and is the recipient of a grant from the National
Endowment for the Arts. She was named the 2001 Robert Frost Medalist
by the Poetry Society of America, and is a recipient of the 2001
Otto Award.
