WILLIAM
PATERSON UNIVERSITY TO PRESENT "HARRIET TUBMAN, " A SHOW
FOR CHILDREN
"Harriet Tubman,"
a musical about the pioneer of the Underground Railroad, will be
staged on Saturday, January 26 at William Paterson University in
Wayne.
Presented by Sail Productions, one of the leading childrens
musical companies in the United States, the show will be held at
2 p.m. in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus. Tickets
are $7. The show is geared toward children in grades 3 through 8.
From her birth into slavery
in about 1820 to her death in 1911, Harriet Tubman became famous
in a variety of ways. In addition to her role in the Underground
Railroad, Tubman was a spy for the Union Army, an intermediary between
white and black communities in the North and a poor but devoted
creative humanitarian for newly freed African Americans.
This engrossing story
about courage and perseverance features original songs by Sail Productions
award-winning composer and is part of the companys Storybook
Theatre for Children series.
