"Three Folk Divas" Lucy Kaplanksy, Patty Larkin, and Susan Werner to Perform at William Paterson University on March 29

"Three Folk Divas," the singer-songwriters Lucy Kaplansky, Patty Larkin and Susan Werner, will perform at William Paterson University in Wayne on Saturday, March 29 at 8 p.m. in Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus.

The trio seamlessly blends genres to create some of today’s most inventive and exciting music with diverse influences from jazz, rock, country, R&B, and Latin music.

In addition to her own recordings, Kaplansky is known for her work on Shawn Colvin's Grammy-winning Steady On, on Nanci Griffith's Lone Star State of Mind and Little Love Affairs, and on four of John Gorka's albums. Her soundtrack credits include singing with Suzanne Vega on Pretty in Pink and with Griffith on The Firm, and several commercial credits, including "The Heartbeat of America" for Chevrolet. For a time, Kaplansky left the musical fast track to work as a clincial psychologist and is back full time. The links between therapy and music can be heard on her latest album, Every Single Day.

Larkin is hailed for her acoustic guitar wizardry and blazing wit. Her songs have been covered by artists ranging from modern-day chanteuse Holly Cole to pop-diva icon Cher. Larkin’s own renditions have been heard in movies ranging from Ivan Reitman's Evolution to the Sydney Pollack-directed Random Hearts starring Harrison Ford and Kristen Scott Thomas which used Larkin's "Good Thing" as end title. She has received multiple awards, and an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music.

Werner is praised for the range of styles, genres, and colors in her music. Her latest release, New Non-Fiction, demonstrates both the quality of musicianship and stylistic breadth that has marked her career as a singer-songwriter with roots in jazz, classical, country, and popular song.

Tickets are $24 standard, $22 for senior citizens and William Paterson University faculty, staff, and alumni and $7 for William Paterson students. For additional information or to reserve tickets, please call the Shea Center Box Office at 973-720-2371.
