RUDOLPH GIULIANI, FORMER NEW YORK CITY MAYOR, HEADLINES WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY’S DISTINGUISHED LECTURER SERIES

Rudolph Giuliani, the acclaimed former Mayor of New York City, is the headliner of William Paterson University’s 24th season of the Distinguished Lecturer Series beginning in October on the campus in Wayne.

The series begins on October 3 with a lecture by Ambassador Dennis Ross, who for 12 years played a leading role in shaping U.S. involvement in the Middle East peace process. General Wesley K. Clark (Ret.), former Supreme Allied Commander of Europe, will continue the series on November 21. Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani will speak on February 6. Molly Ivins, a nationally syndicated columnist, concludes the season with a lecture on April 30.

Subscriptions for the series are $105 for the general public and $35 for William Paterson students. A limited number of single tickets may be available at the Shea Center Box Office for the first lecture on September 29, and for all remaining lectures on October 6. For ticket availability, and to purchase single tickets, please call the box office at 973-720-2371 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.; prices are $26 standard; $24 for senior citizens and William Paterson faculty, staff and alumni; $10 for William Paterson students; and $14 for students from other schools. All lectures begin at 8 p.m. in Shea Center on campus; parking is free.

Ambassador Dennis Ross, a skilled negotiator, was a career diplomat in both the Bush and Clinton administrations. During that time, he was responsible for exploring all approaches to settling the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict in the region, and has been credited with managing the peace process through crises and stalemates. Currently, he is both director of and Ziegler Distinguished Fellow of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. He will talk about the "Latest Developments in the Middle East."

General Wesley K. Clark (Ret.) is the former NATO Supreme Allied Commander of Europe. His military career took him from Vietnam to Latin America and on to command NATO forces in Kosovo. Now retired from the military, Clark provides commentary as a military analyst for CNN, and is the author of the best-selling book "Waging Modern War." He is the managing director of merchant banking at Stephens Group, Inc., an investment-banking firm. Recently, his name has surfaced as a potential Democratic presidential candidate in 2004. General Clark will discuss "Our Changing Relations with Europe."

"Leadership in Difficult Times" is the topic of the address by former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. Under his administration, from 1993 to 2001, New York City experienced a resurgence as he reduced crime by 57 percent, reformed welfare, and encouraged economic growth. For his leadership during the 9/11 crisis in New York City, he was named Time magazine’s "Person of the Year." Currently, Giuliani is a principal in the firm Giuliani Partners, a professional services firm which deals in emergency preparedness, public safety, leadership during crises and financial management.

Molly Ivins is a nationally syndicated columnist and satirist whose work appears in more than 300 newspapers around the country. She writes about national politics and Texas and is the author of several books about politics in Washington. A long-time observer of President Bush, Ivins is the author of "Shrub," which details and analyzes his record as governor of Texas and his election to the White House. Her freelance work has appeared in many national magazines including Esquire, The Atlantic, and The Nation.
