"Crossing Delancey" is a sentimental, character-driven
romantic comedy about a New York City Jewish woman who must choose
between suitors and cultures. An attractive, intelligent Jewish
woman in her early 30s who works in a classy Midtown bookstore and
lives on the Upper West Side frequently treks down to her old neighborhood
south of Delancey Street to visit her grandmother. Appalled that
her granddaughter has not found a husband, she engages a matchmaker
who selects a pickle merchant.
"Crossing Delancey" was made into a popular 1988 movie
starring Amy Irving and Peter Riegert.
The cast is comprised of William Paterson University students and
community members. Students are: Lisa Nicholas of West New York
as "Izzy" and Mark Anthony Tambone of West Paterson as
"Tyler." From the community are: Sue Binder of Franklin
Lakes as "Bubbie;" Andrew Semegram, a William Paterson
alumnus of Wyckoff as "Sam;" and Roberta Lipp of Oradell
as "Hannah."
