CAROLYN DORFMAN DANCE COMPANY TO PERFORM
AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY ON MARCH 1
The Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company, which has won critical acclaim
for its artistic excellence, performs at William Paterson University
in Wayne on Saturday, March 1 at 8 p.m. in Shea Center for Performing
Arts on campus.
The evening will include the debut of a new work, "A Fork in
the Road," a performance piece with music by Horacee Arnold,
a member of the University’s jazz faculty. The work is an
interactive performance piece – by choosing a selection of
dancers, music and movements, the audience will assemble the final
performance.
The eight-member company also will present another new work, "Echad
(One)." Rounding out the program is "The Klezmer Sketch,"
a segment from a larger work, "Mayne Mentshn (My People),"
which is a multigenerational celebration of the Jewish experience
and legacy.
Now in its 20th season, the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company has been
hailed by the New York Times for its sophisticated ability "to
reflect and engender a profound humanity." The company presents
new and repertory works by Dorfman and nationally known choreographers
in performances in major theaters, dance festivals and universities
throughout the United States and abroad.
Dorfman has been named a Distinguished Artist by the New Jersey
State Council on the Arts, which has awarded her four fellowships
for choreography. Since founding her company in 1982, she has created
more than 50 works of contemporary dance.
Tickets are $22 standard, $20 for senior citizens and William Paterson
