WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY SET TO
KICK OFF HOBART MANOR RECITAL SEASON
The Hobart Manor Concert Series at William Paterson University will
present three recitals for the 2003-2004 season under the artistic
direction of new orchestra conductor Paul Hostetter. The Sunday
afternoon performances are slated for October 5, February 8 and
March 28 at 5 p.m. in historic Hobart Manor located on the campus
of William Paterson University in Wayne. Dinner, included in the
$25 tickets, begins at 6 p.m.
On October 5, Aaron Wunsch, a gifted pianist from Yale, will perform
Bernstein’s "Anniversaries," Bartok’s "Suite,
Op.14 for Piano," Respighi’s "Tre preludi sopra
melodie gregoriane," and De Falla’s "Ritual Fire
Dance" from El Amor Brujo. Wunsch, a vigorous proponent of
contemporary music, has appeared on countless concert stages throughout
the U.S. and Europe. He is currently completing his master’s
of music degree at The Juilliard School and also assists in teaching
harmony and 20th century music classes at Juilliard.
The performance on February 8 will feature Gary Kirkpatrick, former
concerto soloist and William Paterson music professor; Franco Gennarelli,
concertmaster and violinist, and Andy Lamy , principal clarinetist..
The concert will include Stravinsky’s "The Soldier’s
Tale," selections from "Humoresques" by Sibelius
and Beethoven’s "Violin Sonata (Spring) in F."
Lisa Romain, violinist and winner of the 2003 Mae and Fletcher Fish
Young Artist Competition, will present the final performance. She
will play Link’s "Lost Jewelry," arias from "Manon
Lescaut" by Puccini and Ravel’s "Sonata" for
violin and piano while accompanied by acclaimed singers Anastasia
Swopes and Barbara Kokolus. Romain recently graduated from the Pre-College
Program at The Juilliard School in New York and from Villa Walsh
Academy in Morristown with high honors. This fall she will attend
the Cleveland Institute of Music.
