WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY HOLDS SUMMER HONOR BAND CONCERT

William Paterson University in Wayne will present its fifth annual Summer Honor Band concert featuring a 120-member ensemble of young band musicians from high schools in New Jersey on Saturday, August 2, 2003, at 8 p.m. in Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

J. Craig Davis, director of bands at William Paterson, and Mindy Scheierman, director of bands at Millburn High School, will conduct the concert. Student participants were selected by their high school band directors to represent their schools. The program will include works by McBeth, Grainger, Walton, Smith, Tichelli, and Shostakovich.

Davis is also director of undergraduate music admissions and recruitment and brass coordinator for the University's music department. He holds the second doctor of musical arts degree in trumpet performance ever awarded by The Juilliard School. He received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music, as well as the Performer’s Certificate, from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester.

Scheierman is a Yamaha clinician and accomplished flutist. In addition to her active role on the state board of the New Jersey Music Educators Conference, she serves as band chairperson of New Jersey Music Educator's Region 1. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Ithaca College.

William Paterson University, one of the nine state colleges and universities in New Jersey, offers 30 undergraduate and 19 graduate programs through five colleges: Arts and Communication, the Christos M.
