INDIVIDUAL TOURS AND DEMONSTRATIONS AVAILABLE FOR REPORTERS TO VISIT
THE NEW RUSS BERRIE PROFESSIONAL SALES LABORATORY AT WILLIAM PATERSON
UNIVERSITY ON DECEMBER 11
Individual tours and demonstrations
of William Paterson University’s new Russ Berrie Professional
Sales Laboratory – a unique interactive resource for learning
sales skills – will be offered for members of the media on Thursday,
December 11 by appointment in the University’s building at 1600
Valley Road in Wayne.
A celebration of the opening of the lab, including remarks by Arnold
Speert, president of William Paterson University, and Angelica Berrie,
chief executive officer of Russ Berrie and Company, will be held on
Friday, December 12 at 1 p.m.
The lab, part of the Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales,
is designed to enable students and working professionals to develop
and sharpen sales skills in a simulated business office environment.
The facility, which includes a control room connected to five labs
and a conference room, features state-of-the-art technology including
robotic digital cameras to record students practicing presentations
to buyers, plasma screens to display the interactions on single or
split screens, one-way mirrors to allow viewing by professors, an
editing room for creating electronic DVD portfolios, distance learning
and videoconferencing capability, and computer-based stations for
teaching inside sales.
The lab supports the Russ Berrie Institute’s curriculum, which
includes undergraduate courses for business majors in negotiation,
customer relationship management systems, and professional sales,
as well as customized training and certificate programs for working
sales professionals.
The opening comes just a year after Russ Berrie, the founder and chief
executive officer of Russ Berrie and Company Inc., announced that
he would invest $6.2 million to establish the Russ Berrie Institute.
Housed in the University’s Christos M. Cotsakos College of Business,
the Institute represents a unique partnership between the private
sector and higher education designed to advance the field of professional
selling. It is the first program of its kind in the Northeast. For
