William Paterson University to Participate
in Nationwide Debate on American Foreign Policy on October 16
The University will host a debate on America’s role in the
world on Thursday, October 16 as part of a nationwide public education
effort, "The People Speak: America Debates Its Role in the
World," sponsored by the United Nations Foundation,
The event will be held in Science Hall 200A from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
and will include a formal debate followed by a question and answer
period. Moderated by John Mason and Martin Weinstein, professors
in the political science department, the debate will feature Barbara
Andrew, assistant professor of philosophy, Ron Glassman, professor
of sociology, Brett Kaffee, a University graduate student in the
public policy program, and Michael Kingston, a University senior
majoring in political science. The debate will focus on two issues:
whether the U.S. should use preemptive military force to stop the
spread of weapons of mass destruction, and whether the country is
better off working with international institutions.
William Paterson’s debate is one of more than 1,000 debates
in 49 states that are taking place during the month of October as
part of "The People Speak." The project is designed to
stimulate a national dialogue about the future of United States
foreign policy and to engage as many Americans as possible in the
discussion.
