AUTHOR AMIR IDRIS TO SPEAK AT WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY ABOUT
THE CIVIL WAR IN SUDAN
Dr. Amir Idris, an assistant professor
of African American studies at Fordham University, will speak about
the ongoing war in Sudan and the role that international agencies
and governments have played in response to the crisis, at William
Paterson University in Wayne on October 21 from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
in Raubinger Hall 101. Admission is free.
Idris is the author of Sudan’s Civil War: Slavery, Race and
Formational Identities, which provides an in-depth look at the crisis
there. More than 50,000 people have been killed during the current
war, and more than 1.4 million civilians have been driven from their
homes; many have fled into neighboring Chad.
Idris is an expert in the history and politics of colonialism, slavery
and race, and post colonial relationships in Northeast Africa. He
is currently working on another book titled, Conflict and Identity
Politics in the Sudan.
The program is sponsored by William Paterson University’s
Department of Political Science, Department of African and African
American Caribbean Studies and Department of Women Studies.
