HIGH MOUNTAIN SYMPHONY OPENS 2004-2005 SEASON ON OCTOBER 23
—Soprano Elizabeth Farnum is guest soloist


The High Mountain Symphony at William Paterson University in Wayne opens its 2004-2005 concert season on Saturday, October 23, 2004 with a performance featuring soprano Elizabeth Farnum as soloist. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in Shea Center on campus.

Farnum will perform as soloist for Mahler’s Symphony No. 4. Also on the program will be selections from Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet. Paul Hostetter will conduct.

An active performer, Farnum has appeared on concert stages throughout the United States and Europe including Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall, Bargemusic and London’s Institute for Contemporary Art. She has premiered pieces by such prominent contemporary composers as Charles Wuorinen, Anthony Braxton and Johgn Zorn, and has been a guest soloist with many of New York’s modern music ensembles, including the New York New Music Ensemble, the Cygnus Ensemble, and Parnassus. Farnum has also appeared in numerous musical theatre productions, including Riverdance on Broadway, and has performed with the chorus of the Metropolitan Opera.

Hostetter has appeared as a guest conductor with numerous orchestras including the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the American Composers Orchestra and the Philharmonia Virtuosi. He has also worked with the New York City Opera Company and the Genesis Opera Company. He currently performs as a percussionist with the Perspectives Ensemble.

Tickets for the concert are $30, $27 for senior citizens, William Paterson faculty, staff and alumni, and $8 for William Paterson students and those ages 17 and younger. Subscriptions for the Symphony’s three-concert season, which continues on February 26 and April 30, 2005, are also available for $75. The concert will be preceded by a pre-concert with the conductor and guest artist beginning at 7 p.m. in Shea 101.

The High Mountain Symphony is underwritten, in part, by William Paterson University. It is also funded, in part, by the Passaic County Cultural and Heritage Council at Passaic County Community College through the State/County Block Grant Program of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
